The official Steam page for THE DEAD WE KNEW: Open World Survival includes a 2:43 video labeled “Gameplay Official Gameplay Trailer.” It presents the game as an open-world survival experience built around exploration, scavenging, shelter construction, food, zombies, hostile survivors, and changing weather.

What the trailer shows

The footage and accompanying game information focus on a survival loop rather than zombie combat alone:

  • Explore forests, abandoned structures, and other ruined areas.
  • Search for supplies and gather materials.
  • Build and improve a shelter.
  • Prepare food and manage survival needs.
  • Fight infected enemies and hostile human groups.
  • Travel through changing weather, rain, wind, and fog.
  • Play alone or cooperate online with other players.

Fog is one of the trailer’s main atmosphere and danger elements. Reduced visibility can make familiar areas harder to navigate, while the official Steam description says that zombies may become more aggressive when darkness and fog set in.

Trailer commentary and gameplay expectations

A community overview from Zaravio Gaming on YouTube describes the footage as combining open-world exploration, abandoned-building loot searches, hunting, cooking, base upgrades, hostile humans, and online co-op. These points are useful for understanding the trailer, but the video is commentary rather than an official developer statement.

The independent Inven Global feature also emphasizes that hostile survivors are a major threat alongside zombies. Encounters with other humans may therefore be as important as infected enemies when deciding whether an area is safe.

What to check before watching

The Steam listing describes the game as planned for Early Access and identifies single-player and online co-op features. It also lists Windows 10 as the minimum operating system, 12 GB of RAM, a GTX 1070 or equivalent graphics card, and about 20 GB of storage. These are listed requirements, not performance results from the trailer, so players with lower-end PCs may want to wait for independent testing.

The same page lists the planned Steam release date as October 22, 2026 and notes that Steam Deck compatibility is unknown as of October 15, 2026.
